    New Construction Landscaping Tips

Getting to know some simple new construction landscaping tips will help you create a better layout for the landscaping around your home. At Jovak Landscape & Design, we understand how much curb appeal and value proper landscaping can add to any new construction home. That is why we offer a range of landscape services that are ideal for new construction builds of all shapes and sizes.

Why is proper landscape design so important?

    1. Create a Plan

Before jumping in and planting flowers in your new garden, make sure to take some time to figure out what you like and how you want to use your yard. It is also a good idea to take into consideration how long you plan to stay in your new home and what you would like your yard to look like in the future. This will allow you to plan out your landscaping in phases, so that you can make investments into your yard over time, if you do not have the budget to do everything all at once.

    2. Hardscape Before Landscape

Since trees are expensive to move and landscape plants tend be damaged when hardscapes are installed, consider having all of the hardscape features installed in your yard before any softscape work is completed. Some of the hardscape items that should be installed first can include fences, walkways, driveways, outdoor lighting, retaining walls, patios, decks, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and swimming pools.

    3. Aerate Soil

Most new construction homes tend to be surrounded by soil that has been compacted by the heavy equipment that was used when building the home. Since good soil is key to successful landscaping, aerating the soil with small holes will allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the grass roots, producing a stronger, healthier lawn.

    4. Know Where to Plant

Make sure to take into consideration how big plants and shrubs will be in three to five years. If plants are placed too close together or too close to the house, they will not grow properly. Consider planting shrubs at least two feet from the house and planting tress far enough way that their roots will not grow under the home’s foundation.
