This Walnut Grove project turned an underused backyard into a low-maintenance outdoor living space built around a post-and-beam fir cabana, a composite deck, and a curved stone patio. We added a built-in barbecue, a fire pit area, overhead heaters, fresh perimeter garden beds, and landscape lighting, so the space works for quiet evenings and dinner parties alike, in every season.

The final plan paired a post-and-beam fir cabana with a composite deck underneath it, so the family gets shelter from rain and sun without losing the clean look of the decking. Overhead heaters inside the cabana mean the space gets used well past the last warm evening of summer, which matters through a Fraser Valley fall and into the shoulder seasons.

A curved stone patio extends off the deck and gives the yard a second gathering spot, one with a different feel and function. We added a built-in barbecue along the patio edge so cooking happens right where people are sitting, not off to the side. The paving stone surface also made room for sun loungers and a dedicated fire pit area, so the same footprint works for an afternoon in the sun and a fire-lit evening.

Perimeter garden beds tie the hard surfaces together with a colourful, low-fuss planting palette that softens the edges of the deck and patio.
